Who knew 2011 would be such an exciting year, and not always in
a good way! I have been so busy working on my final content class,
preparing my dissertation for submission, doing readings, and
teaching that I have not had time to update my site. I apologize for
that.
On top of all the interesting things mentioned above when the
tornado hit Westmoreland County my house was one of the homes
that received a good bit of damage. My car was also pounded and
had to be repaired. I was here with my 7 year old grandson when
the storm hit. It was the most frightening nature event, outside of
some strong earthquakes I experienced in Chile, that I have ever
been in. I hope to never experience that again. Forget golf ball sized
hail, my house got pounded with baseball sized hail! Not something
I ever want to experience again.
In the aftermath the contractors from out of state drove me nuts
averaging 8 times a day knocking on my door with terrible tales of
how much damage there was. I knew what was damaged thanks to
a quick response by Allstate. They were here fast, covered the cost
of my damages. I hired only contractors who actually are from this
area. I am still somewhat under construction because it will not stop
raining long enough to finish the exterior painting. My painter tells
me that with another day and a half of good weather he can finish.
Maybe we will have that much nice weather by the end of June! I
hope the ducks are enjoying the weather.
I miss my peaceful existence before the tornado/hail storm! Anyone
who has undergone construction on a house you live in will
understand it when I say, quiet is a rare thing.
However, there is a bright side. My kids don't call me the silver lining
lady for nothing! My house had these ugly black and white awnings
that hid the house from view and blocked the light from coming
inside. The awnings were too damaged to save. I happily had them
removed. Wow! Now you can see the house and the nice lines it
has. It is such a shocking change that people driving by stop
suddenly to stare at the transformation. Luckily no one has been
rear ended but it has been rather close a number of times.
I was sitting on my porch on one of the rare nice evenings and
people drove by and gave me thumbs up on my improvements. It
was the funniest thing. Car after car stopped to stare, then they
realized I was watching, and they gave me a thumbs up. Now that
the front of the house is almost finished being painted cars passing
when I am there give me two thumbs up. People are pretty funny but
I give them a thumbs up right back.
Now you can tell that I live in a Victorian. Staying true to Victorian
custom she is being repainted in three colors, soft gray siding, white
trim, and red shutters and wrought iron railing to match the red,
metal roof. It looks awesome. At least the votes in favor from the
houses' drive by fans outnumber the nos. Once the shutters are up
on the second floor and we get a sunny day I will complete the set
of photos I have and I will post the before, during, and after photos
so that you can share in the fun of watching the transformation.
Meditate for energy cautiously right now. You don't need to pull in
as hard because the earth's energy is high right now.
I look forward to seeing some nice weather soon. Maybe in time for
my birthday on June 7th!
